All about us
James McDonald Funeral Directors was first established as a joinery business in Stonehaven, Aberdeen by Mr Cheyne and Mr James McDonald.
At the time, both James and Mr Cheyne sought to establish a Funeral Directors in Stonehaven as there was only one Undertaker in the area, called J Shepherd.
Within a year, both Cheyne and McDonald established the first Chapel of Rest in Stonehaven.
In 1979, Mr Cheyne sold his interest in the Funeral Directors leaving James McDonald to officially take over the running of the funeral home. In the first year, James looked after 9 funerals in the first year. By the 1990’s that number had grown to over 100 funerals.
“The name James McDonald can still be seen above the door and is now the main Funeral Directors in Stonehaven.”
A major refurbishment in 2008 saw a second Chapel of Rest developed as James McDonald went from strength to strength. In recent years, the funeral home has assisted the community by raising funds for local charities and sponsoring sporting events at the local bowling club.
